After whipping up winds approaching hurricane strength, Tropical storm Chantal in the Caribbean may weaken into a "tropical wave," the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday. As the storm continues to move northwest with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles (75 kilometers) per hour, tropical storm warnings for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands have been canceled.
